Yalla is Looking Forward to so Much in 2022

Yalla is Looking Forward to So Much in 2022!

2022 is going to be Yalla’s year - we know it!  With so many exciting professional and personal milestones popping up in the coming months, we can’t help but be excited to experience it all.  And we want to take you along for the ride!

If you’re thinking about working with us in the coming year - hiring Yalla to take on your business PR or joining our very own team (yes, we’re hiring, too!) - or just curious about what goes on behind the scenes at Columbus’ full-scale marketing agency, read on to find out what we’re looking forward to this year!

Katie’s Top 2022

So many great events in Columbus, GA!

We have a lot of fantastic events on the horizon, but two new ones have me really excited!

We are in the process of planning and implementing both the 2022 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Cup and the 2023 ICF World Championships. These events will bring kayak competitors together from all over the world to compete in a variety of canoe-based events on the Chattahoochee.  From stand-up paddling to races - this Olympic-caliber event will feature the best in water sports right here in Columbus.  So where does Yalla fit in?

We’re planning a party around the tournament that evolves the competition from a sporting event into a destination festival. We are just in the beginning phase, but we are already daydreaming about sharing this amazing community with all the competitors and visitors who will be with us for this exciting event!

Growing our team!

2022 is all about expansion, and we are looking forward to our company growing again this year.

Yalla is planning to add another full-time social media content creator and manager to our team by summer of 2022. Are you great with social and digital video content?  Love making Reels, and managing stories?  You might be just the person we’re looking for!

We are currently accepting resumes. Drop us an email if you or someone you know seems like the right fit.

Travel!

When Stephanie and I first started Yalla, we both had some non-negotiables. Stephanie’s – putting her family first. Mine – traveling the world. That’s the joy of doing this kind of work.  Sometimes I can do it from anywhere!

The pandemic put a halt to my world traveling, but in 2022 I already have places booked, and my bags half packed. I can’t wait to visit friends and family and explore some exciting new places.

Travel is a major inspiration, so I’m thrilled to incorporate it back into my life.

Stephanie’s Top 2022

Community involvement!

Over the past 15 years, Yalla has had the opportunity to be a part of the growth of our amazing community.  Some of my children’s fondest memories are the fun we’ve had in Uptown at the events Yalla has produced.

It is always exciting to watch our community further develop into a place that people want to not only call home, but others want to travel to for adventure.  We’ve got so many unique events to look forward to this year from all of the new developments on the river spearheaded by WC Bradley Real Estate to Uptown’s RiverFest and Explore Harris County’s Soil to Soul Farm to Table Dinner.  We can’t wait to experience it all with all of you!

I’m thrilled for Yalla to be a part of the amazing things pushing Columbus forward in 2022.

Working together!

It has always been my passion to provide a career path for people to grow and flourish in a fun, flexible environment.  It’s important that our Yalla team can chase their personal dreams while feeling appreciated at work and able to grow as individuals.  Like Katie, I’m excited to grow our team with this mission at the forefront in 2022!

It’s such a joy to come to an office every day where I love my colleagues and get to crush the goals of the clients that we adore working with.

Want to collaborate with the most fun team in town? Give us a shout! I am certain we would adore you, too, and would love to support the success of your business!

Adventures with family!

I’m also looking forward to our Woodham family travels and adventures in 2022.  We’re traveling internationally to Costa Rica for Spring Break to try surfing, which will be a fun new adventure for us all.

We live on the lake, and always enjoy time spent on the water.  We love to wake surf during the summer, so it will be great to compare surfing on the lake versus surfing in Costa Rica!

My son, Jasper, turns 15 this year - I am nervous and excited to teach him to drive, especially a manual transmission vehicle!  My daughter, Crawford, turned 12 in January, and I love to watch her skills develop as an artist each year.  It’s incredible to work in a job that I enjoy while prioritizing time with my family - they are my everything!

Gabby’s Top 2022

New skills!

Being a Columbus native, I knew from a young age that supporting this community through work worth doing is one of my most significant passions. I love representing my hometown with this team!

As I begin my third year with Katie and Stephanie, I am beyond excited to begin planning Yalla’s biggest events to date, and continue to expand our social media services. The world of social media is ever-changing, and we pride ourselves on staying up-to-date with the latest trends and topics.  I love discovering the new top tools for social media to help you grow and engage with your audience.

Learning new skills to support our clients while we continue to grow our small, mighty team is one of my favorite aspects of being on the Yalla team.  I’m thrilled to be able to share our tried and trusted, as well as our brand new skills with Yalla clients in 2022!

A Yalla Wedding!

On a personal note, I’m getting married in 2022 and I get to plan my wedding this year!  I am so lucky to have such an incredible tribe of women to support me through the planning process.

Spencer and I have been together for six years.  Columbus is where we fell in love, and we are so excited to celebrate our wedding here!  We also just moved into a new house with our pups, Pepe and Pancho - a big year for us!

New Office Mural!

We are so happy to have local artist Tony Pettis paint a custom mural for the Yalla offices!

Tony works in the neo-expressionist style and is livening up our lobby with some truly magical art.  We believe that you’ve gotta love where you work, and surrounding ourselves (and our clients) with beautiful artwork invites us to love our space even more.  Even better that we get to collaborate with an artist who’s just as inspired by Columbus as we are!

Y’all stop by - we can’t wait to show her off when she’s finished!

Columbus is a special place to live, and it’s an incredible community to serve.  We’re honored to collaborate with so many innovative Columbus-based businesses and service providers this year.  Whether we’re planning Columbus-based events or helping to get the word out through our omnipresent digital marketing packages, we can’t wait to be a part of the next phase of the city’s growth.

Ready to work with us now?  Drop us a message to find out how we can take your business marketing to the next level this year.

Alright 2022, the Yalla team is ready to work hard and make it fun!

Black-Women Owned Businesses in Columbus

At Yalla, we pride ourselves on being a local, women-owned small business. We have also witnessed how systemic racism has created an economic divide within today’s culture.

While we cannot offer the solution to racial injustice in America, we can use our influence to empower local Black-owned businesses to help bridge the economic gap in our amazing community of Columbus, Georgia.

We believe in our local economy and YOUR influence in adopting change. So, we’ve compiled a list of 15 local businesses owned and operated by Black women! These aren’t the only local businesses owned and operated by Black women, just a few, so we want you to help us add to it! If you know of a local business that should be added to our list, leave it in the comments below. We hope you’ll join us in the fight to dismantle systemic racism, one step at a time.

We Asked, You Voted: Best Lunch Spots In Columbus, GA

lunch.jpg

We wanted to know what restaurants locals love to visit for lunch. After RECEIVING over 100 surveys, we took out national chains and kept the local restaurants people voted for. So, what are we waiting for? Let's take a look at the best lunch spots in Columbus.

ObOGQ.gif

BBQ

1. Smoke Bourbon & BBQ

It's no wonder Smoke is at the top of the list. This restaurant was voted "Best New Restaurant" for the 2017 Ledger Enquirer Readers' Choice Awards. People seem to love the Pimento Cheese Wontons the best. What's great about Smoke is their Express Lunch. If you need to get in and out for lunch and get back to work, they have a different express lunch item every day during the week.

2. Clearview Barbecue

Famous for their 99 cent Chipped Sandwich, it's clear to see why this family run eatery made the list.

3. Country's Barbecue

This restaurant has been around since 1975 and has turned into a Columbus staple. While they have a vast menu, most people in our survey said they love the Grilled Chicken Salad the best.

Southern Style

1. Minnie's Uptown Restaurant

With a cafeteria type setting and delicious food, it's no wonder Minnie's was one of the most mentioned lunch spots in our survey. Make sure you try the Fried Chicken, it's definitely a local favorite.

2. The Black Cow

Another Uptown restaurant, The Black Cow serves mouth-watering Southern comfort dishes in a rustic atmosphere. The Bacon Pimento Cheeseburger was mentioned more than a few times, so if you haven't tried one, head on over there. This restaurant also has daily lunch specials which caught the eye of our survey takers.

3. Speakeasy

With a menu of pizza, burgers, and other familiar eats, this Midtown restaurant offers a lot of choices to their customers. The Turkey Rider is a must try!

giphy.gif

Between The Bread

1. Dinglewood Pharmacy

In the back of this pharmacy, you'll find a 50's style restaurant and the best Scrambled Dogs in Columbus. This restaurant was one of the top mentions in our survey.

2. Midtown Coffee

We're talking about lunch, so how did a coffee house get on the list? It's definitely because of their Grown Up Grilled Cheese. Good food and it's easy to grab a coffee to bring back to the office? We are sold.

anigif_sub-buzz-2418-1473792036-2.gif

Asian Persuasion

1. Chili Thai

Their Chicken Pad Thai had an insane amount of mentions. With a cool atmosphere and a menu with such amazing food that it's hard to choose, it's a no brainer Chili Thai made the list.

2. Mandarin Cafe

There was a tie between the Kung Pow Shrimp and Sesame Chicken and we are excited to see which one we like better. If you're hankering for Chinese, the locals have made it clear this is the best place to go.

Mexican

1.  El Vaquero

This restaurant blew all other Mexican restaurants out of the park. It is definitely a Columbus favorite. Whether you are a craving a taco, burrito, or quesadilla - El Vaquero is the place to go!

2. Conversation

This is a chance to discuss not only what’s great about our community, but also ways to make it even better — more sustainable, just, safe, strong and vibrant. Having the chance to be a part of this type of conversation is important for the prosperity of the Chattahoochee Valley Area and it's residents.

3. Coming Together

When residents, organizations, businesses and government come together, we can all make contributions that add to a greater solution. This is the starting place for meaningful conversation, and together we can make positive changes for the city.

How It Works

1. Host

Being a host is easy.  A host commits to hosting a conversation over breakfast, lunch, dinner, a coffee break or anytime in between. The invite list is up to you – friends, family, colleagues, neighbors – and can be hosted in homes, restaurants, places of worship, libraries, offices, the breakroom at work or other community locations. The conversations can be sit down, catered, picnic, brown bag or potluck – it is entirely up to the host. Before the conversation, you'll receive a Host Toolkit with everything you need, including a conversation guide and easy ideas for taking action after your event. Everyone is welcome to serve as a host.

Register as Host

2. Guest

Many people will attend an On the Table conversation by receiving an invitation from an individual or organizational host. If you're interested in participating but don't have a host, we invite you to attend an open table! Open tables will be set up at various locations throughout Columbus.

Register as Guest

3. Superhost

Superhosts are organizations — nonprofits, places of worship, businesses, schools, civic organizations and others — that commit to hosting at least 15 tables, 8 to 12 people per table. If this describes your organization, please contact us at 706-718-9565 or onthetablechatt@cfcv.com.

Back To School

Back_to_school.jpg

Summer is almost over and it's time for the kiddos to get back to the grind. We talked to NeighborWorks Columbus and Muscogee Moms to get you the tips for a smooth transition!

1. Shop Early

Most schools offer a list of required school supplies and books your child will need. Contact your child’s school or visit the website to get the list and begin looking for sales and bargains before the summer ends. Source: NeighborWorks® Columbus

2. Buy Personalized Pencils

If your kids are fond of school supplies, buy them a set of personalized pencils. This will motivate them to start off the year with a fresh batch of pencils with their names on them. Source: Muscogee Moms

3. Take A Back To School Photo

Capturing photographs of all the special moments from the first day of school is a must! Take a photograph of each child holding a chalkboard, with the grade they are entering written on it in chalk. These photos will become a time stamp for each grade. Source: Muscogee Moms

4. Transition Into A School Schedule

Establish a school-day schedule for homework, TV, baths and bedtime. Starting 7-10 days before the first day of school, ease your kids into your school schedule by backing up their bedtime 15 minutes each night and consistently waking them earlier. Also, establish a “get ready the night before” policy. Pick out clothes for the next day and set your coffee maker. Once the school year starts, add packing backpacks (and lunch boxes) every evening to your nightly routine. You’ll save precious time in the morning.  Source: Muscogee Moms

5. Gather Your Paperwork

Schools require lots of forms. Have the necessary immunization records available for easy reference. Be prepared to update school emergency contacts and health information for the upcoming year. Visit your school’s website to view registration information, school supply lists, and more. Source: Muscogee Moms

College

1. Ask About Hidden Fees

In addition to tuition, there may be other charges. Ask about lab costs, books and resource charges, for example, get an accurate idea of the funds needed per year for your child. According to the College Board, the annual cost of books and other course materials for an in-state college could exceed $1,200 each year. Source: NeighborWorks® Columbus

2.Complete The FAFSA (free application for federal student aid) Early

This will help you determine the aid for which your child may qualify. Also check to see if your state offers any type of state grant or financial aid. Source: NeighborWorks® Columbus

3. Investigate Loan Types Before You Sign

Some states offer no-interest loans, which, if accepted by the school, can be a great alternative to a private loan. If taking out a parent-plus loan, be sure to borrow only the amount needed to cover the bill. Pay the interest accruing on all (private and federal) student loan accounts; this keeps debt from ballooning. Source: NeighborWorks® Columbus
